During the oxidation process of

During the oxidation process of the bacteria eating the sludge it releases electrons. Which can be used as power the study, research project and white paper from Penn State University states;

?. . .insert a fuel cell with carbon anodes in oxygen free sludge. The bacteria adhere to the anodes, which harvest the electrons to produce a current that flows through a wire to a cathode.?

Could this possibly be enough to power up the entire carwash? Maybe not, however it would be enough to run the lights, signage and some public carwash processes, which were electric with hydraulic assist. Much of the power output would depend on the amount of bacteria, the size of the sludge tank and the rate at which the sludge in the tank was returned by washing future cars. Please consider this in 2006.

JUST SAY NO TO S&H (SHORTS & HEELS)

JUST SAY NO TO S&H (SHORTS & HEELS)

0 Comments | Evening Standard; London (UK), Jul 26, 2010 | by Olivia Cole

I’M all in favour of shorts. I own two pairs: crushed velvet from Warehouse, very Brigitte Bardot, and a minute gold-studded cotton pair by Melissa Odabash, kind of sailor girl with a tiny restrained sprinkling of bling. I’m all in favour of heels but S&H, seen everywhere now, from summer parties to the red carpet, is a fashion combination that should never be mixed.

For me it’s up there with legs and cleavage, blue and green, and leopard skin mixed with zebra.

Don’t shorts belong where there are no shoes of any kind: beaches, boats, gardens, sand dunes? The most frightening kind of shorts are the floppy rolled-up variety, responsible this week for making Katie Holmes look like she’d stepped out in one of Suri Cruise’s nappies (as pictured right).

In the first place, they are unforgiving. But even those who usually never put a fashionable foot wrong and who have great legs (Cameron Diaz, Blake Lively, Gwyneth Paltrow) are unwittingly stomping around like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman before the Rodeo Drive makeover.

Received wisdom is that it makes you on trend; to my mind, it makes me want to start humming “She gets too hungry for dinner at eight.” What’s wrong with ballet shoes, flip-flops, ankle boots or simply barefoot? It’s not just my aversion — the debate is raging elsewhere. On pioneerthinking.net, says a worried wearer, “I’ve heard it talked about a lot like it’s some horrible crime.” [Yes, because it is]. Unbeaten table leaders take hit

Unbeaten table leaders take hit

0 Comments | Southland Times, The, Jul 19, 2010 | by Andie DILLON

THE Southland-wide senior hockey competition is heating up just one month out from semifinals with upset wins over the men’s and women’s previously unbeaten table leaders at the weekend.

Top men’s side Collegiate started well, taking an early 2-nil lead over Phoenix Orange in Invercargill on Friday night, until midfielders Daniel Moylan and Dean Ritani picked up the pace and levelled the score 2-all at halftime. There was then no stopping the firing Phoenix Orange team, who managed a goal almost every 5min in the second half. Daniel Moylan scored a hat- trick while Nathan White, Chris Young and Chris McLean all added their names to the score card to take a 7-2 win. A weekend off hockey and no practise for two weeks proved crucial for top women’s side Mataura Gold as they got off to a rusty start against Mataura Maroon in Gore on Saturday. The table leaders were unlucky to miss several goal- scoring opportunities but Mataura Maroon showed more composure and striker Jacinta Brook capitalised off a weak defensive clearance to score the game clincher and break Mataura Gold’s winning streak.

In other matches, two sides that are battling for a top-four position in the men’s competition came head to head when Phoenix Red faced Central. Defender Andrew Wilson scored the first goal of the match, coming off a week’s rest after the National U18 Premier where he played for Otago who placed runner-up. Phoenix Red then held the 1-nil lead well given they were two field players short because of school holidays and having four U15 players at nationals. However, Central’s Kieran Pearce scored late in the second half to lock the final score at 1-all.

When Eastern United hosted Invercargill United in Gore, the home side got off to a strong start and led 2-nil at halftime

Expensive vacuums aren't best

Expensive vacuums aren’t best

0 Comments | Maryland Gazette, Feb 9, 2008 | by ASSOCIATED PRESS

If you’re in the market for a new vacuum and tempted to spend hundreds of dollars, do some homework first.

With so many new features, shopping for a vacuum might seem like shopping for a new car. Various brands now offer easy handling, compactness, self-cleaning filters, reduced noise, or removal of tough pet hair.

But according to Consumer Reports, not all the most expensive vacuums do well at the most basic task: cleaning.

“It can be difficult to separate the hype from the performance. Paying more does not guarantee better performance,” said Bob Markovich, Consumer Reports’ home and yard editor.

A review of more than 60 upright and canister vacuums for the March 2008 publication rates a $300 Kenmore Progressive as the best buy, beating the buzzed-about Dyson models and a highly rated $1,350 Kirby Sentria, which was deemed excellent overall but less effective at pet hair. The magazine rated vacuums from Aerus, Rainbow and Filter Queen that sell for more than $1,000 near the bottom of its list.

This is often

This is often more serious then the kind of consequences we pay when someone is sick with “the flu.” Plus lately, after talking to many clients, many of whom are still paying in one way or another for the irresponsible behavior of a full grown adult, I am starting to conclude that when the person with the “ism” or “recently diagnosed personality disorder” is on to us then out comes the term unconditional love. If we say no or object to the behavior, he or she can always turn around and go “but I thought you said your love was me was
unconditional!!!” This puts us on the defense because it implies that we are the ones who are unloving and unlovable. I think the appropriate response is “well then why don’t you go out and find someone who will agree to co-sign your B.S.!!’” If they’re A.A.

Pets and their people: Cute lemurs set sights on survival

Pets and their people: Cute lemurs set sights on survival

0 Comments | People (London, England), The, July 18, 2004

THIS wide-eyed baby lemur is melting hearts at a safari park after boosting her species’ chances of survival.

Cuddly Typhoo and her twin brother Earl were born a month ago and measure just 60cm high.

They are already a star attraction at Woburn Safari Park in Bedfordshire.

A spokeswoman said: “They’re a really mischievous pair and love exploring.

“Last year their mum gave birth to a baby, Tetley. Sadly she rejected him and he had to be hand-reared by staff. But this time she is being a perfect mum.”

There are just 10,000 black and white ruffed lemurs left in the wild and numbers are dwindling fast.

Native to Madagascar, the creatures use their tails to balance as they leap from branch to branch.
